NVC Workshops & Courses
Creating a culture of empathy in your home, workplace and community requires skills such as listening to and expressing feelings and needs, being present and having compassion for yourself and others, which we may not always have learnt. We can practice and integrate these skills so that they become part of our everyday behaviour. By practising empathetic and honest communication with others in groups, we train these skills.
Courses contribute to
- Self-compassion: recognising the needs behind your judgements
- Inner peace and balance: getting in touch with yourself instead of being reactive
- Understanding others: understanding the intentions of others can lead to greater compassion and fewer misunderstandings
- Be able to express yourself: genuinely and in contact with others
- Development: learn to recognise what you need to take responsibility for in dealing with others
Empathy and honesty at home
Creating a culture of empathy always starts with ourselves. It takes self-awareness, deep listening both to yourself and others with the intention to connect.
It can help when you:
- want to get along with someone else
- longing for a different quality of contact in a relationship
- feel tired and don't know how to act
- feel regret, guilt or shame
- are caught up in judging others or criticising yourself
In a workshop or training programme, you will learn to:
- curiously listen to what is important to you and others
- see behaviours based on needs
- express yourself genuinely
- receive feedback without hearing criticism and blame
- find solutions to problems together.
Empathy and honesty in the workplace
Many people in organisations are becoming aware of the importance of communication in the workplace, both for managers to listen to their staff, between colleagues and in relation to clients, customers or patients. Interpersonal communication is an important skill for successful leadership.
Incorporating NVC and changing the culture of a workplace takes work over time. It is the application of NVC over a period of time that builds trust and co-operation between people! Working with an NVC trainer is invaluable in integrating the NVC mindset, skills and practices into your workplace.

Sataya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft
Someone who has experience in influencing his company's culture is Sataya Nadella, head of Microsoft. He wanted to emphasise more soft skills such as empathy instead of focusing on fast-paced performance. Nadella wanted to change not only the business strategy but also the culture and values.
One of the first things Satya Nadella did after becoming CEO of Microsoft was to ask the company's top executives to read Marshall Rosenberg's book ”Nonviolent Communication, A Language for Life”.
Satya Nadella wanted to create a culture where they can take their own and customers' perspectives to move the company forward. He believes that people are wired to empathise, and this is important not only for creating a collaborative workplace environment, but also for creating products that benefit the customer.
